About us

Alina is a charity orchestra making classical music accessible, inclusive and meaningful for everyone.

Founded by Chief Executive Nick Cutts in 2017, Alina was created with a simple ambition: to give something back to the local community through the power of music.

We believe that classical music should be for everyone. Our concerts are friendly, welcoming and approachable, inviting audiences to discover and enjoy great music without feeling that they need to be an expert. Through captivating performances of the highest artistic excellence, led by our renowned Musical Director Hilary Davan Wetton, we take audiences on a musical journey, offering insight into the music and creating a genuine connection between the orchestra and those listening.

“For me, it was a really emotional occasion – I don’t think I’d quite grasped how much I’d missed the power, energy and beauty that an orchestra generates.”

But Alina is about more than concerts. We believe that being part of a community means serving the needs of that community.

Our dedicated outreach programme uses music to promote wellbeing, create opportunities and reach people who might otherwise have little or no access to classical music and its many benefits.

We work with local care homes to deliver workshops supporting people living with dementia, provide musical opportunities for students through local music hubs, and create events for people at the heart of our communities who, for whatever reason, may not otherwise be able to experience live orchestral music.

Our Band in a Van events and Care Home workshops are an important part of this work, bringing music directly to communities across Milton Keynes and Buckinghamshire.

If you can’t come to us, we can certainly come to you.

We are proud to be a non-profit charity, and proud of the difference Alina makes through both our performances and our outreach. We hope our communities feel as proud of Alina as we do.

“You’re doing wonderful things with Alina and I just wanted to express my gratitude and appreciation!”

About our name

“Alina (Bright, Beautiful, Light) means many things in many languages and to me, that is the way we approach music – it means different things to each and every one of us. When I first started thinking about creating a new professional orchestra, I wanted to create a name that people would remember, that didn’t link itself to any geographical location and didn’t refer to size. In that way, Alina is a musical ‘resource’ for communities – it can go anywhere and do anything as long as it can support people with music and outreach, reaching as many diverse sections of the community as it can.

We hope that Alina can always be the light for everyone, even in the darkest of times.
